STRAIGHT OUTTA MICRONIA | Zentraedi Regults Part 3

Robotech RPG Tactics

Zentraedi Regult Assembly Part 3

Regult Tactical Battlepod

I finished assembling all of my Regult Tactical Battlepods bring me to a total of 48 Regults. What follows is the meaning of life is cheap being the mass expendable bulk force of the Zentraedi armada. I will also discuss what is next up for the Regults as I am far from finished with them.

Start With 24, Finish With 48

First 24 Regults were assembled using four poses; standing, walking, running, and leaping. All of these poses are stable and easy to move. Second 24 Regults were assembled for simplicity using the same four posses. I did add some variance to the poses though. Standing Regults remained the same. Walking Regults all have their left leg forward were the previous had their right left forward. Running Regults all have their left leg forward were the previous had their right left forward. Leaping I used a combinations of different leg sets alternating left and right leg forward.

Walking pose with different legs forward.

Running pose with different legs forward.

A short breakdown of all Regults and their various poses.

Standing - 12 Regults
Walking - 6 Regults with right leg forward, 6 Regults with left leg forward
Running - 6 Regults with right leg forward, 6 Regults with left leg forward
Leaping - 4 Regults with right leg forward, 2 Regults kicking with left leg forward
Leaping - 4 Regults with alternatingleg forward, 2 Regults with standing legs

48 Strong

Now it is time to show what 48 assembled Regults looks like. Before I show you what 48 assembled Regults looks like, lets take a look at 24 assembled Regults.

Now lets double your offer, Kickstarter Showdown style. This is what 48 assembled Regults looks like in all their plastic glory.

Front view

Top view
All 48 assembled Regults are made from 732 individual pieces from 16 sprues including 12 leaping swoosh pieces in the total. Assembling 12 Regults from a box set is a challenge, but 48 is something else. I do enjoy the punishment.

732 pieces to assemble 48 Regults? WTF?

Looking Past Assembly

The next step in the Regult's process is to paint them and I would very much like to paint them, all of them, all 48 of them. Right now the way I assembled them might not be the best to use when painting them. There are four paint options to use and I would like to use them all if possible to better differentiate individual squads in a game. For the longest time I had the idea of painting each pose a different color.

A quick not about the paint options.
Paint option 1 and 2 are very similar
Paint option 3 and 4 are very similar

Regults are always purchased in lots of 6, 9, and 12 so painted Regults should reflect these lot numbers as much as possible.

Here are some painting idea I have come up with and I am mostly likely over thinking all of this. I try to keep things even and uniform instead of random and chaotic when I can or want to anyway.

Idea A

This idea allows only one pose per paint option

Paint option 1
Standing x 12
Paint option 2
Walking x 12
Paint option 3
Running x 12
Paint option 4
Leaping x 12

Idea B

This idea allows two poses per paint option

Paint option 1
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6
Paint option 2
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6
Paint option 3
Running x 6 + Leaping x 6
Paint option 4
Running x 6 + Leaping x 6

Idea C1

This idea allows all poses for all paint options

* This idea trips with OCD alarm. Knowing walking, running, leaping poses have alternating legs forward, there will be a slight uneven balance in pose to paint option ratio.

Paint option 1
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 2 x One leg forward and 1 x One alternate leg forward)
Paint option 2
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 2 x One leg forward and 1 x One alternate leg forward)
Paint option 3
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 2 x One leg forward and 1 x One alternate leg forward)
Paint option 4
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 2 x One leg forward and 1 x One alternate leg forward)

Honestly I need another 12 Regults as I so want another 12 to bring their numbers up to 60 strong. This would give rise to idea D.

Idea C2

This idea allows all poses for all paint options

* This idea trips with OCD alarm. This idea attempts to calm the OCD alarm, but not fully silence it. Knowing walking, running, leaping poses have alternating legs forward, there will be a slight uneven balance in pose to paint option ratio.

Paint option 1
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 3 x One leg forward)
Paint option 2
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 3 x Alternate leg forward)
Paint option 3
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 3 x One leg forward)
Paint option 4
Standing x 3 + Walking x 3 + Running x 3 + Leaping x 3
(Walking and Running - 3 x Alternate leg forward)

Honestly I need another 12 Regults as I so want another 12 to bring their numbers up to 60 strong. This would give rise to idea D.

Idea D

This idea allows all poses for all paint options. This idea is probably never going to happen.

* This idea resets the OCD alarm.

Paint option 1
Standing x 4 + Walking x 4 + Running x 4 + Leaping x 4
Paint option 2
Standing x 4 + Walking x 4 + Running x 4 + Leaping x 4
Paint option 3
Standing x 4 + Walking x 4 + Running x 4 + Leaping x 4
Paint option 4
Standing x 4 + Walking x 4 + Running x 4 + Leaping x 4

Then there is idea OK. Raise the amount of Regults and bring the armada to 96 strong.

Idea OK (Over Kill)

This idea allows all poses for all paint options

* This idea resets the OCD alarm.

Paint option 1
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6 + Running x 6 + Leaping x 6
Paint option 2
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6 + Running x 6 + Leaping x 6
Paint option 3
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6 + Running x 6 + Leaping x 6
Paint option 4
Standing x 6 + Walking x 6 + Running x 6 + Leaping x 6

Which Idea Is Best?

As you can see if I over think something I can get stuck and stall. I am strong for ideas A and C for pose variety in each paint option. Oddly enough when I play games I tend to use all of the standing and walking poses first. Please feel free to leave a vote, a change to an idea, a potential new idea, thoughts.

One good thing about painting is I have a test miniature in the works right now for paint option A. Once I figure out how I want to go about painting everything in lots I can get the first 12 painted to the first paint option. I am very close to finally finishing assembling all of my Zentraedi units and in the background working on my UEDF units as well

Next post I should have the test miniature I ready for viewing and an assembly guide and sprue review for a different unit. I am still keeping up with my ATOW Battletech RPG campaign as well. I need to work on a lot of posts to come. Plus there is a worrisome stir in the air with one player going awfully silent lately.
